Over the past few years, golf has evolved into more than just a sport. The slow, traditional game that many have deemed boring, is now a sensation in the sports world. Fans eagerly await not just the idea of watching their favorite stars on the course, but the entire experience that surrounds it. And the AIG Women’s Open recently took that new-world experience to a whole new level, by bringing on board the British sensation who gave the world the famous song, ‘Love Me Like You Do’.

English popstar takes her first step into the golf world

Walton Heath in Surrey, England, will play host to the AIG Women’s Open this year. But besides watching the world’s best women golfers face off at a world-class course, the event has a lot more to offer. And its biggest upgrade is that it will be headlined by a live music show featuring none other than the England’s music sensation, Ellie Goulding.

The songwriter herself is quite excited for the event, where the likes of world No. 1 Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, and LPGA superstar Lexi Thompson will take to the course to battle for the major. “I’m honored to be the first music artist to perform at the AIG Women’s Open,” she stated, as per Golf Monthly’s recent report“I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!”

The singer also added that being able to be a part of the change promoting women’s sports, was an idea that exhilarated her. “The elevation of women’s sports is something I’m a huge champion of,” she claimed. “So I can’t wait to be surrounded by inspiring women in August.”

The live concert that Goulding will star in is just one of the many different ways that the R&A is trying to attract more attention to the sport. Through such upgrades to the events, the governing body is hoping to open up the world of golf to a bigger and perhaps younger audience.

Besides the music show, the Walton Heath event will also host an enhanced festival fan village. Featuring a fun golf zone, VR and interactive golf experiences, and screenings of both golf and other women’s sports like the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the event is certainly bound to be a big hit.
