Tiger Woods made his comeback to playing televised golf in months at the seventh edition of ‘The Match’ this weekend. He teamed up alongside World No. 1 and good friend Rory McIlroy. However, the duo failed to provide a tense competition to their opposition team, consisting of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. After their loss, Woods was complacent about the match, terming it a ‘fun night’ on Twitter later.

For the unversed, the 46-year-old suffered grave injuries in a single-car rollover crash in February 2021. His leg has been a constant source of debate, with many feeling the legendary golfer can no longer play golf like before.

Woods’ comeback was also put in jeopardy when he withdrew from the Hero World Challenge at the start of December due to plantar fasciitis. However, he was raring to go to the four-man event, giving fans something to cheer for.

While Woods made his presence felt at the Pelican Golf Club, his performances were far from satisfactory. The 15-time major championship winner looked rusty in his comeback and couldn’t hold a reasonable challenge against the duo of Thomas and Spieth. However, Woods’ comeback gave enough reasons to cheer, with the cheeriness evident from the replies to the golfer’s recent tweet.

Indeed, fans thanked Woods for his comeback. Many concealed the golfer’s performance on the night, instead looking forward to more of Tiger Woods. Here’s a selection of those tweets.

What was the scoreline of ‘The Match’?

While all four golfers ended in smiles, it was the pair of Spieth and Thomas who took top honors. The 29-year-old’s won the event with a scoreline of 3&2 at the Pelican Golf Club.

The duo led from the word go, securing a three-point cushion in the fourth hole itself. The Woods-McIlroy pair, with 19 major championships under their belt, lost all but one round, at the seventh hole.

There is more for Woods’ fans to cheer about. After his show at the Pelican, Tiger will be next seen at the PNC Championship alongside his son Charlie Woods. The event will commence on 15 December.
