Golf fans are gearing up for the 123rd United States Open Championship, which is scheduled for June 15–18. It will take place at the North Run at the Los Angeles Country Club. It is a 72-hole tournament. But the road to the US Open had already started in April. The USGA organizes more than 100 local qualifying tournaments for the right to take part in the national championship. Golfers all around the world are turning in to get a qualifying position in the US Open. This includes LIV golfers as well. But one golfer is ready to miss this opportunity and spend time with his family and friends.
LIV Golf defector comes in with a disappointing update
The heated LIV vs PGA debate has no effect on the status of LIV golfers for the US Open. They are allowed to participate as long as they meet the criteria. But the LIV defector who has won 17 professional events, Ian Poulter, is not in the mood to attend this year’s US Open Championship. On his recent Instagram stories, he held a QnA with his fans, and one of his fan asked him whether he was going to “do US Open qualifying.” To which he replied: “I will not be.. I will have just flown back to the UK with the family and I will be having June off at home with family and friends.”

In another story, he again implied his absence from the US Open. One of his fan asked: “Do you feel more present and available for your family since joining LIV?” To which he replied: “Yes and it’s wonderful… can’t wait to enjoy the month of June in the UK with family and friends.”
The English golfer also missed the Masters, and now fans won’t be able to see him in action at the US Open in June, which is truly disheartening.

The US Open stands on LIV Golf Defectors
Around 18 LIV Golf members have submitted their applications for the US Open. According to the USGA website, seven LIV golf members have been exempt from the process, and have directly qualified for the existing course of the 2023 U.S. Open. This includes Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Martin Kaymer, Cameron Smith, and Joaquin Niemann.
Last year USGA gave statement about their openness in the championship. “We pride ourselves in being the most open championship in the world and the players who have earned the right to compete in this year’s championship, both via exemption and qualifying, will have the opportunity to do so.”
