The GOAT, Jack Nicklaus, is currently 83 years old. But when it comes to golf, age is just a number. His wife, Barbara, is a witness to the fact. The couple has been together since 1960 and has been giving couple goals ever since. A wife knows her husband best; Barbara proved it during an interaction with Wright Thompson from ESPN in 2008. Thompson did an intimate portrait of the 18-times major championship winner. He talked to his family and friends and presented “Father Bear” to us. Thompson indulged in conversation with Nicklaus’s wife. In the article, Thompson writes, “Barbara says he never seems that old to her. Well, that’s not exactly true. A sly smile comes to her face. “Yeah, if I ask him to go shopping. ‘Oh, I can’t walk on that cement.’ ‘You walk how many miles a day?’ ‘Yeah, but that’s grass. That’s on a golf course.'”

Barbara didn’t think Nicklaus was old, and he has proved it many times. Despite his age, he works more than ever. According to Thompson, the retired golfer works more now than he did then. He is flying around the world and returning to Southern Florida so he and his wife can watch their 21 grandchildren in sporting events, recitals, and plays. He was in tears when he saw his grandson achieve a tremendous accolade.

Even his kids see him as something of a superman. Thompson asked how long he could do this. Nicklaus’s son, Jack II, replied. “I hope a lot longer. Realistically, you have to imagine he’s going to start slowing down. But honestly, I haven’t seen it.”

Nicklaus loved golf, and no one can deny that. He has dedicated his life to the sport, and as a result, left behind a legacy for future players to look up to. Once in an interview with Graham Bensinger, Nicklaus talked about his golf achievements and their importance. He said, “I just do the best I can,” “There was only one person I could control. That was me.” The retired golfer revealed his response when people asked him about his biggest competitor.
