Remember Nelly Korda’s 2024 season on the LPGA Tour? Or Vijay Singh’s legendary 2004 season on the PGA Tour? These were iconic dominant one-year stretches that left the second-best player eating dust. Joaquin Niemann’s 2025 LIV Golf season is heading in that direction. Niemann registered his fifth-ever victory at the LIV Golf, his third in six events this season at the Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico.

The five victories mean one thing. The Chilean golfer is now tied with Brooks Koepka for the most victories on the LIV Golf Circuit and it looks like he will hold the record on his own in the days to come, given the form that he is in. “Yeah, I mean, it’s special to be up there with Brooks as most wins. I mean, it’s just been three years since I joined here on LIV, and I feel like it’s a special place right now for me to be here and I can become the most winner on the league. Yeah, it’s something that I’m looking forward to that, and I’m going to work hard for that,” Niemann stated after his three-stroke victory over Lucas Herbert and Bryson DeChambeau.

But the Chilean does not stop making history there. His victory at Mexico also allowed him to be the first-ever LIV Golf player to earn direct qualification to a major directly via his standings on the LIV Golf. That is great news for the Chilean who recently played at the Masters Tournament and finished T29. The former World No.1 Amateur stated, “My team was asking me to sign up for the qualifier and the sectional, and I wasn’t really into that, so more than anything I’m grateful that I’m not playing 36 holes on a Monday after a tournament. Yeah, I’m pretty happy.”

At the beginning of this year, the US Golf Association had declared that an exemption would be granted to the top LIV player who is in the top 3 of the LIV Golf standings as of May 19, 2025, who otherwise was not exempt. Such has been his dominance that despite one more event left, the LIV Golf Korea, Niemann is thirty points far away from Jon Rahm who has an automatic exemption due to his 2023 Masters title. Niemann is also nearly 46 points away from Sergio Garcia in third. A victory at Korea will only give Garcia 40 points, which is not enough to oust Niemann from his position. Talk about dominance!

Niemann is already participating at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship this year, making it just the 4th year in the 26-year-old career where he has participated in all four majors. Niemann has to thank his brilliant performance at the Club de Golf Chapultepec for these amazing achievements.

Joaquin Niemann’s incredible Sunday in Mexico

Niemann started the day at 10 under par on the 71-par course at Naucalpan, four strokes off the leading Bryson DeChambeau.  The 2024 US Open winner failed to put much of a challenge, carding an even-par score after two bogeys and a double bogey canceled out his birdie. On the other hand, Niemann was playing some inspired golf.

The Chilean scored 7 birdies including two on the last three holes to register a 6 under-par to register his third victory of the season at the expense of DeChambeau and Herbert who himself made a stunning comeback with a 10-under par score on the last day. “It’s pretty hard to make it more special than this moment right now. I mean, this place is amazing. It was a good battle with Bryson, with Cam, so I’m happy to be in this position right now,” Niemann opined about his last-day exploits in Mexico.

Do you think the Chilean can register his first-ever Major victory this season and finally live up to his billing?
