How others look at us isn’t how we often look at ourselves. Everyone has their own insecurities, including sport legends like Tiger Woods. Even though the world looked up to him and saw him as a golf God, that’s not how he felt about himself. According to his former caddie, Steve Williams, he saw himself as weak, and admired a single group, who he viewed as the “ultimate human beings.” Woods wanted nothing more than to be like them.
Steve and Tiger had spent 12 years together and had a magnificent partnership. During the years Williams caddied for Woods, the golf pro went on to win 13 of his 15 majors, and Williams had done his part in assisting him in them.

Tiger Woods wanted to change the way he looked
In William’s book, ‘Out of the Rough’, on page 132, the caddie revealed Woods’ insecurities with his image. He said that despite the world looking at him like a golf legend, the 15-time major winner felt quite the opposite. Woods felt like the same kid that others saw while he was growing up—a “skinny”, “nerdy” kid. He wanted nothing more than to “change that image.”

While Williams argued that Woods was one of the greatest athletes of all time, Woods said it didn’t matter. When he looked at the bigger picture, golf players ranked very low on his list. The 82-time PGA Tour winner held one group in his highest regard. The Navy Seals.

The SEALs served as his motivation to change himself completely. He wanted to be exactly like them. But since that was not possible, Woods was reluctantly ready to settle for looking like them. He wanted an athletic body that was finely tuned, so he made changes to his workout routine.
His gym routine intensified, and he began focusing on building muscle. Soon his strict workouts became an addiction. His resolve was strong, and every single day the golf pro would visit the gym both in the mornings and evenings.

Woods once strongly considered joining the Navy SEALs
The golf legend had taken part in many military-style training sessions in his attempt to be like them. To him, a military man like his father was the pinnacle of success. He craved their dedication and motivation to stay strong physically and mentally.

Woods even considered joining the Navy SEALs at one point in his career, but that wasn’t an option for the golf pro. He had built himself a hearty life with multi-million dollar sponsorships, and was then engaged to Elin Nordegren. Despite craving the adrenaline-filled lifestyle that the SEALs had, Woods could do nothing about it. Because his life and talent were not something he could simply abandon.
