However, it was not so surprising as he had given clear green flags to the LIV series. In an episode of “The Pat McAfee Show”, Barkley said, “Listen, if someone gave me $200 million, I’d kill a relative.” It looks like the news of Barkley’s interest in the series reached Greg Norman’s ears in no time.

He said to The Post“We have all taken ‘blood money’ and we all have ‘sportswashed’ something, so I don’t like those words, to be honest with you. If you are in pro sports, you are taking some type of money from not a great cause.”. The statement was made in reference to LIV’s sponsors, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which has a history of human rights violations.

Barkley mentioned that his sponsors contacted him after he met with the LIV chief. But he made his intentions clear through his statements. “Between [my Turner contract] and all my commercials, for me to risk all of that, it would have to be some serious money thrown my way,” he said.
