Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are probably two of the biggest names the world of golf has ever seen. It is a common sight for someone to get starstruck upon meeting the aforementioned. This holds true even for famous personalities like Charles Barkley. Charles is an “NBA All-Star turned-analyst”  who has a keen interest in golf. He talked about the same on a podcast with hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz. The focus of this podcast was, however, his first meeting with Woods.

How Barkley met Woods

Barkley and Woods have shared a long history of acquaintance. Talking about how he met Woods for the first time, the NBA Hall of Famer revealed that it was during a party.

He reminisced, someone saying, “Hey, Tiger Woods lives up the street. He wants to come to the party.”  Upon which he remembers answering, “Of course, he can come to the party!” He added, “I think this was when he first went pro. Honestly, It was crazy. He was awesome. And then my tournament was the next day, so he comes and socializes and we all have a great time and sit around, and after he says, ‘How long are you guys going to be in town?’ And we’re like, ‘What you got in mind?’ He says, ‘If you guys hang around we can play golf.’’

Clearly, Barkley agreed to this and that’s how their history of a long acquaintance actually began.

During the same podcast, he also shared how he met Phil Mickelson. He remembers crediting his wife, Amy, who he said is the sweetest lady ever, for introducing him to Mickelson. Barkley now refers to Phil as a really good friend. Talking of him he said, “When you’re with Phil, you’re guaranteed to have fun. He makes people feel good. Everyone around him is always smiling.”

The bond shared between Mickelson and Barkley is rather amicable. But what is the current relationship between Woods and Barkley?

Tiger Woods and Charles Barkley: status of friendship

Like all friendships, the bond between Barkley and Woods has been through ups and downs. The two started off as good friends but with time, Woods cut off with Barkley. Their bond lasted for about 15 years. but it could not withstand the test of time and in 2015, Barkley revealed that they were no longer friends.

Even though they are no longer friends, their friendship and the coincidence through which they met one another is one to remember.
