On Thursday, the Colonial Country Club renovation gave the players a tough time. In the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge, with a tough afternoon of blustery conditions, even the No. 1 player, Scottie Scheffler, failed to go under par. However, Charley Hoffman stood out with his gameplay.

Carding a 5-under 65 with a one-shot lead ahead of five players, he only missed two fairways and three greens, never coming close to dropping a shot. It certainly seems like Hoffman is on course to bag a win this week and one-up with two Top-5 finishes of the season (the WM Phoenix Open and the Corales Puntacana Championship). And with his Titleist arsenal, he just may have a shot!

What does Charley Hoffman use for his amazing fairway shots?

Charley Hoffman uses the Titleist TSR2 driver with an 8-degree loft. The driver has been slimmed down and ramped up to give out optimized speed. It retails at $449. The club provides improved aerodynamics and ‘SureFit Adjustability’, and it shows in his driving accuracy, which is at an impressive 65.18%, with a total of 245 fairway hits over two decades. He uses it with the Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Pro Orange 50 TX shaft.

For his fairway woods, the American pro uses the TSR2+ 3-Wood (14.5 degrees). It retails at $299. The club provides players with exceptional forgiveness. Hoffman uses it with the Mitsubishi Tensei CK Pro Orange 80 TX shaft, which further enhances its speed and accuracy. In his bag, he also has the TSR3 5-wood, which costs $299. He uses it with the same shaft.

Hoffman also carries a hybrid in his bag. He uses the Titleist 913 HD (20 degrees) with a Fujikura Motore Speeder HB 9.8 Tour Spec X shaft. With its advanced design strategies, this club helps players hit the ball further and play better fairway shots.

Coming to his irons, Charley Hoffman opts for the T100 from the T-series of Titleist. They are each priced at $200, and he has six of them (4–9). Equipped with the Nippon N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 105 X shaft, the club gives him better control. Additionally, these have weld points, which give better precision than any other set of irons. Jordan Spieth, who also uses these irons, once even stated, I don’t know why anyone would play another iron!”

Hoffman’s wedges and putters

When it comes to the wedges, Hoffman turns to the Titleist Vokey Design SM10 (56-14F) with the Nippon NS Pro Modus3 Tour 105 X shaft. Each costs $189. With their crisp contact, optimal flight, incredible spin, and, of course, the magical Bob Vokey grinds, they’re many pros’ go-tos for the best short game. The American pro also carries a Vokey Design WedgeWorks (60) with the True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400.

Charley Hoffman, just like many other PGA Tour pros, trusts his game on the greens with the Titleist Scotty Cameron T8 Prototype with the SuperStroke Zenergy Flatso 17 grip. It is with this putter that he has been able to acquire a putting average of 1.741, ranking him 57th on the PGA Tour.
