The onset of the Grant Thornton Invitational has fired up the golf world. As the golf world prepares itself for the second round bound to happen today, some interesting observations from the first-round dynamics are important to note.

Out of the 16 teams that have been teeing up in this event, one notable one is the all-England pairing between Charley Hull and Justin Rose. However, these Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup winners seem to be facing some difficulties at the Tiburon Golf Course, finding themselves six teams away from the top spot!

The patriotic heroes of England seem to be struggling to get in form on American soil. The duo is currently tied for fourth place with three other teams after carding 14 under par in the first round of the event.

This is a matter of concern as the expectations set by this Solheim Cup and Ryder Cup victor duo were much higher considering they had remarkable years themselves on their respective tours (with Rose amassing 5 top-10 finishes and one win and Charley finding 6 top-10 finishes in the 2023 season) as well as found some incredible footing at the international events, each winning their own!

With the first round having ended, the duo seem to be struggling to find their place on the map of victory for this event. The leaderboard is currently being led by American stars Nelly Korda and Tony Finau. However, with two rounds yet to be played, the European fans will undeniably be praying for the tables to turn.

The innovative format of the event consists of scrambles, foursomes, and modified four-balls. The ball is still in Hull and her partner’s court. Their shot at making it to the top of the leaderboard is dependent on what moves they make next. But will the duo be faced with a cut before it makes a resurgence?

Is there a cut at the Grant Thornton Invitational?

Thankfully for Charley Hull and Justin Rose, the event’s jam-packed format leaves no space for a cut. Pacing away from traditional events where players at the bottom of the leadership are eliminated after two rounds, the sixteen teams at the $4 million event will not be met by any such fate. All the pairs will make it to the final round on Sunday, giving them all more time to compete for the leading spot.

This has thereby increased the chance for this patriotic duo to make a resurgence in the upcoming 2 rounds and come to terms with the top few rankings. Only time will tell if they will be able to find their way back to glory or not.
