Charley Hull has nothing to hide. She was apprehensive at first when speaking about her mental health struggles last year. But now British International candidly admits it and has suggestions for her fans as well. Hull was diagnosed with ADHD last year. She was agitative and restless. Things were a little weird, Hull admitted back then.

In a Q&A session on Instagram, the British Solheim Cupper had to face questions about whether her mental issues ever became a problem on the course. Charley Hull revealed that she never “struggled mentally on the course.” Rather, the off-course activities are where she struggled. But she has figured out how to battle that.

Hull tries to bring the focus back by hitting the gym. The British International wrote on her Instagram story, “I smash the gym to help me. I love nature and realise everyone in life struggles, you’ve just gotta be mentally strong and accept you’ll have bad days and learn from them bad days on how to deal with them.

Thanking her family, the two-time LPGA Tour winner wrote, that they are “the true people who care for me.” Hull also revealed maintaining equanimity in the face of an adversary has gotten her this far. “I think as well my fave saying is, It is what it is and it’ll be what it’ll be.’” The 27-year-old also had a useful suggestion that has worked for her.

Charley Hull added, “Just deal with it and try and take everything as a challenge because my mind performs better when I take things as a challenge this might not be for everyone but this works for me.

She advised that, “On the days when you feel down you still got to keep on going and ride the wave out.” Interestingly, what Hull said on Instagram was an echo of what she said in a previous interview

Hull was confused about her own behavior

Last July Hull told Today’s Golfer,I’ve been struggling mentally this year, not on the golf course but off the course.” Hull, in fact, had to withdraw from the International Crown abruptly citing health concerns. The relative secrecy of the move ahead of such a prestigious tournament put a question mark on her professionalism.

However, later she revealed that “At the end of the day, it’s not something I wanted to share at the time because I was going through a bad patch. Sometimes when it comes to mental health, I think people play on it a bit too much rather than just addressing it and working on it yourself.” Not just Hull, but many of her peers too have spoken candidly about mental health struggles.

Alison Lee wrote for LPGA.com in 2022 that, “Not many understand how dark and lonely it can be for the lives of professional golfers.” She went on to recount the anxiety-laden days that put her confidence a few notches down. Lexi Thompson, too, has earlier acknowledged her struggles outside the ropes.
