Charlie Woods is all set to take his first step to play in a major. The young son of the 82-time PGA Tour champ Tiger Woods will attempt to qualify for the 2024 U.S. Open, which will take place at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club (Course No. 2). Although the 15-year-old failed to create an impact at the pre-qualifiers for the 2024 Cognizant Classic, he’s far from giving up and is now back for another try—that too for one of the biggest events in the sport.

Teeing off at a local qualifying site in South Florida this week, the youngster is all set to fight to play in his first major. So when and where exactly will he be fighting for his spot?

The 15-year-old will participate in a local qualifying event on Thursday, April 25, at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Woods Jr. is scheduled to tee off at 8:18 a.m. ET in a bid to become part of the five that will advance to the Final Qualifying, and fight for a spot in the year’s 3rd major.

The qualifier will be an 18-hole contest lasting just one day, and only professionals or athletes with a handicap index not exceeding 0.4 can qualify. Should Charlie emerge victorious, he will proceed to participate in Golf’s Longest Day, a 36-hole tournament, to secure a spot in the 2024 U.S. Open scheduled for late May and early June.

The course in Port St. Lucie is but one of the 109 local qualifying sites across 44 states and Canada for the 127th edition of the major. Furthermore, the players who qualify from these sites will compete alongside numerous exempt players in the Sectional/Final Qualifying, which spans 13 sites, with 10 located in the USA and the remaining 3 in England, Canada, and Japan.

The rest of the field, which has a total of 83 golfers excluding Charlie Woods, will undoubtedly prove to be a challenge for the youngster vying for his first major start. And given that many notable amateurs are on the list, it will make the teenager’s job even harder!

Many pros’ children will be on the field alongside Woods Jr

Notably, the site at which Tiger Woods’s son will tee off will also witness Cameron Kuchar, the son of Matt Kuchar, along with Reed Greyserman, who is the brother of PGA Tour Pro Max Greyserman. Additionally, Austin Lemieux, the son of former Canadian ice hockey player Mario Lemieux, will also be participating. Having already advanced to the first stage of PGA Tour Q-School, Lemieux will undoubtedly be one to watch this week.
