Golf fans hoping to see the iconic Tiger-Charlie Woods duo in action this December might just have to wait a little longer. Ever since the duo started playing in the PNC Championship together, it has become a sort of family tradition for them. When it started in the 2020 PNC Championship, Charlie was only 11 years old. However, their partnership captured fans’ hearts.

They had seen Tiger Woods conquer golf courses for years, and now it was his son’s time to play alongside his father and then carry on the legacy. Since then, the duo has played the PNC Championship every year, but 2025 will be a little different, a little heartbreaking. On October 10, 2025, Tiger Woods shared an X post about his 7th back surgery.

“After experiencing pain and lack of mobility in my back, I consulted with Doctors and Surgeons to have tests taken. The scans determined that I had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal cord. I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back,” wrote Tiger. It had only been a few days since he was last seen swinging at Liberty National Golf Club, where he hosted the 2025 Nexus Cup.

In March 2025, Tiger had undergone Achilles tendon surgery and missed many PGA Tour events, including the 2025 Masters Tournament. But seeing him practice at a driving range gave fans a glimmer of hope to see him in the remaining PGA Tour events. Although his name was missing from the initial field for the Hero World Challenge, fans thought he would be part of the 3 remaining slots.

But any shred of hope was slivered as the news of his 7th back surgery came out. And with that, the chances of Tiger Woods and Charlie Woods playing at the PNC Championship are also very thin, as recovery from back surgery will at least take a few months. The 2020 PNC Championship marked the debut of the duo, where they put up interesting numbers on the board.

They scored 19 under par to finish tied at 5. What captured a lot of golf enthusiasts’ attention was Charlie’s skills. The son of the legendary golfer scored his first eagle at the age of 11 with a hooked 5-wood. In 2021, they secured second place with a score of 25 under par. Despite 11 straight birdies on the second day for 15-under 57, they lost to John Daly and John Daly II.

The duo has played 5 seasons and managed to come second twice, in 2021 and 2024. Besides that, they tied for 8th in 2022 and tied for 5th in 2023. However, they had yet to win the title, and that seemed out of the question in 2025, too.

While the setback delays his return to competitive golf, Woods remains optimistic. Jupiter Links Golf Club, which Tiger captains, posted a get-well message on X. To this, Tiger replied, “I’ll be there for every match!” confirming his commitment to TGL Season 2 starting January 13, 2026. For now, fans wish Tiger a smooth recovery and look forward to a stronger comeback next year.

Jupiter Links Golf Club is a TGL team co-captained by Tiger Woods. The team struggled in the inaugural TGL season, with a record of 1-4-0. Their lone win came against Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf, which lost all its matches. Tiger’s comment about joining the Jupiter Links Golf Club suggests that he has already begun his rehabilitation.

Hopefully, we will be able to catch Tiger in action for the second season of TGL. Tiger’s return and the team’s reshuffle also highlight how TGL is reinventing golf for a new generation.

TGL reshaping the game for a modern audience.

TGL is a tech-driven golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Mike McCarley. The recently premiered league has reimagined golf by combining traditional skill with modern entertainment to attract younger and broader audiences.

Players compete over 15 holes, with the first 9 played as Triples. It includes a 3-on-3 alternate shot format and 6 holes of Singles. Each hole a player wins earns their team a point, and a closest-to-the-pin shootout decides any ties. The season includes five regular-season matches, followed by single-elimination semifinals and a best-of-three championship series. The inaugural season featured 6 teams.

One of the teams is Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club, which features Max Homa, Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner, alongside the 15-time major winner. Other notable teams include Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf and Justin Thomas’s Atlanta Drive GC, which won the inaugural season. The roster consists of several popular names, including Woods, McIlroy, Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Patrick Cantlay, Collin Morikawa, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg, and Shane Lowry.

With Season 2 on the horizon, TGL continues to push the boundaries of golf, blending technology, star power, and fast-paced formats to captivate a new generation of fans. Hopefully, Tiger Woods will recover from injury in time to take the course, bringing his signature energy and excitement to a league that is redefining the game.
