The golf world was left divided in opinion as soon as the youngster announced his plans to take part in the qualifiers for the Cognizant Classic. The reason? Interestingly, the teenager has never qualified for a USGA amateur event and has never played a tournament in AJGA up until now. However, now that worries can be put to rest as the athlete makes his debut at North Carolina.
However, it’s not as if the teenage golfer is without any feats of his own. In 2023, Woods Jr. achieved a feat that the legend himself couldn’t. He won a high school state championship in Florida with his team, the Benjamin School. Interestingly, he did so by finishing T-26 with a score of 154 (78-76) over the two days, pushing his team’s total to 602, thereby capturing the title.
That’s not all. The 15-time major champ’s son had emerged victorious at the Major Championship at Village Golf Course in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, and the Last Chance Florida Regional (Boys), the latter of which helped him qualify for the Notah Begay III Junior Golf Championship. Moreover, the 15-year-old also finished second with his father at the 2021 PNC Championship. Well, listening to his accolades does make one curious about the athlete’s Cognizant Classic qualifiers.

The young golfer would initially compete in the pre-qualifiers for the tournament on Thursday, which would take place at Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound. If he manages to become one of the top 25 that advance to the Monday qualifiers, he has a chance to compete for the top four spots that would be available for the players to gain entry into the Cognizant Classic PGA National’s Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens.

In the meantime, the 82-time PGA Tour champ’s son would be teeing it off alongside the likes of Ruaidhri McGee, and Olin Browne Jr., who is the son of pro golfer Olin Browne himself. Anyhow, it appears the youngster has his work cut out for him for the next two weeks. What’s more, many of the legend’s fans would be rooting for him to emerge victorious and move on to the main tournament.
