As diamonds are created under pressure, Tiger Woods too had an upbringing that could be seen as harsh and tough. However, it was the reason why Woods reached the height of his success. The legendary golfer was brought up under Earl Woods, and with his out-of-the-norm tactics, which played with Woods’s mind and made him a tough cookie.
As Woods is a father himself, he once revealed the training Charlie Woods gets and how similar it is to his own trainee days. The 15x major confessed the ‘nonstop’ tricks to mess up with Woods Jr. to train his mind and make him concentrate better on the game.

Tiger Woods had training with Earl Woods and it was, needless to say, not easy. However, it made Woods what he is now with his added talent. Nevertheless, the 82x PGA Tour winner has not forgotten his father’s tricks and now uses them on his son, Charlie Woods.
In 2022, Woods gave an interview to Paul Azinger and Dan Hicks during the Hero World Challenge on Golf Channel. Azinger asked Woods if he messed up with Charlie and used “distraction-like little tricks,” and Woods replied in affirmation.
He said, “It’s nonstop, it’s trying to get him—if I can get into his head, that means someone else can get in his head.” Woods continued and explained that these tricks were seeming to work, and said, “It’s getting to a point where I can’t get in his head, and then no one else can get in there, either.”
The legendary golfer believed in what his father taught him and although it comes out as harsh, he expressed that it is not for everybody and one has “to be willing to take it.” The father and son will soon be gracing the greens at Ritz-Carlton GC for the annual PNC Championship, as Woods cherishes the time spent with Woods Jr. and wishes to pass down the legacy of his father.

The PNC Championship is not the only playground for the father/son duo. This year, Woods has been accompanying Charlie Woods more and was seen caddying for him at the Notah Begay III Junior Championship. While doing so, Woods shared why he has opted to be a caddy for his son.
The Cal native said about his father, “My coach, and my mentor and my best friend, he (Earl Woods) was the world to me.” He then continued by saying that making similar memories with Charlie “means the world” to him. Woods might have been harsh to Charlie for his training, however, he has his best interest at heart.
