Did Wyndham Clark get caught cheating in front of the camera? The world no. 7 finished the first 18 at the top of the leaderboard with a 2-stroke lead against the field. Teeing off in the second round, Clark had a magnificent start as he birdied at the very first hole to increase his lead. But it was his actions on the third hole that caught everyone’s attention.
Apparently, after hitting the ball off the tee, it landed on the fairway, bounced back, and hit a pitch mark. Footage from the shot shows that the ball is sunk into the fairway as if it was methodically placed on someone else’s mark. This raised the question of whether Clark took another PGA Tour pro’s spot on the fairway.
The video was tweeted by NUCLR GOLF with he caption “🚨😲🏌️♂️ #WATCH — Wyndham Clark appears to have taken relief from a pitch mark that didn’t belong to him on the 3rd hole during round 2 of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. (H/t:@TeeTimesPub)”. The post also confirms that no action was taken against Wyndham Clark after he hit the shot.

Only a few minutes later, @ TeeTimesPub confirmed that Rich Pierson, the Director of TV Rules and Videos, had reviewed the situation. He stated that Clark would not be receiving a penalty as he didn’t play an illegal shot. As the tweet read, “Wyndham Clark Resolution! No penalty for Clark. By utilizing Shotlink cameras the tour was able to determine the ball landed in it’s original pitch-mark. Would have been a penalty if it was in a different pitch-mark. Would love for them to post the alternate angles!” But fans didn’t shy away from sharing their frustration toward Wyndham Clark.

One of the fans provided a comprehensive review of the situation. They commented, “Wyndham Clark illegal drop on 3 fairway. Very clearly took a drop from a pitch mark he did not create
@PGATOURComms @PGATOUR”. Even the commentators were baffled about the same issue. It clearly seemed like Clark took over someone else’s pitch mark to give himself some sort of an advantage.

At first, @TeeTimesPub was also puzzled about the situation. They, too, had commented, “Am I crazy or did PGA TOUR Live just in real time commentate Wyndham Clark breaking the rules and then move on as if nothing ever happened?”. They were expecting the PGA Tour to take prompt action, which didn’t happen. Thankfully, the right people reviewed the issue and confirmed that Wyndham Clark didn’t break the rules in any way. However, if Clark had cheated, then this wouldn’t have been the first time he did so. Just last year, the fans berated the PGA Tour pro for his actions in The Players Championship 2024.
Having said that, Wyndham Clark is still in a strong position on the leaderboard. Do you think he or Shane Lowry can capitalize on their form and win the 2025 Arnold Palmer Invitational? Who are you placing your bets on? Share your views in the comments section.
