Collin Morikawa Lauds Justin Thomas’ Iron Game but Crowns Tiger Woods as World’s Best

Despite missing the cut at the Players Championship this year, no one can dismiss Collin Morikawa’s on-course prowess. This includes his iron play, which is being praised all across the globe. However, Morikawa believes someone else is the best iron player.

Though the topic is up for debate, many fans agree on a few names overall. Morikawa – currently looking to secure the World No. 1 spot – is one of them.

During a recent interview, Morikawa discussed iron-play in detail, and why he feels PGA Tour legend Tiger Woods continues to be the best.

Collin Morikawa chooses Tiger Woods as the best iron player

More often than not, Woods’ name is enough to convince most golf fans. Even the younger players seem to follow Woods, hoping to pick something up from his swing. Furthermore, every player has a different swing and technique they prefer.

While discussing the same, Morikawa spoke of Justin Thomas, Woods, and their iron play.

This paved way for a discussion praising Justin Thomas.  “I mean, look, JT’s iron game I’ve loved and I’ve admired, but to me, I still think Tiger has the best iron game. Like, even now”. The five-time PGA Tour winner also focused on Thomas’ game. Thomas had control on his ball, which ultimately resulted in a bogey-free round.

Unfortunately, Morikawa’s words ended up reminding everyone of Woods being sidelined.

Why is Collin Morikawa supporting Woods?

Though Morikawa started by complimenting Thomas, the 25-year-old focused on Woods and why he plays best. Morikawa spoke of their TaylorMade shoot, where Woods shot with an iron.

He also noticed the common link between Woods and Thomas, which seems to be their iron game. According to Morikawa, Thomas and Woods should be friends for this very reason. “I’m sure JT’s like, that’s why they’re really good buddies. Like, I’m sure he’s learning,” he added.

Morikawa even reiterated his point about Woods being No. 1.

Having said that, Morikawa is set to prove himself at the Valspar Champion. Along with Morikawa, Thomas will also be playing at the event. Woods, as mentioned, is currently sidelined. Clearly three of the greatest players in today’s golf, fans remain eager to see all of them back on the course again.
