After an unimpressive end to the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, Colin Morikawa has finished in 11th place in the PIP rankings. The 25-year-old has been agonizingly close to the top 10 for the second time in as many years.

To sink in the disappointment, Morikawa trolled himself on the number, claiming “this number 11 thing is sticking with me.” The tweet also featured a mention of Golden State Warriors forward, Klay Thompson, who wears #11.

Collin Morikawa takes 11th place finish with a tongue-in-cheek tweet

The PIP rankings were no different for Morikawa, who secured 11th for the second successive year. The position will guarantee the 2-time Major Champions a paycheck of $3 million.

However, the situation is harsh for Morikawa this time around. According to the criteria used, he was 0.0017 points away from breaking it into the top 10. Tony Finau, who finished one above Morikawa, secured the position at 0.8126, while the latter finished at 0.8120.

To put it in context, Finau will gain a couple of million more to secure a $5 million package. That is a couple of million more than Morikawa, who decided to make fun of his situation with a hilarious tweet.

He also tagged NBA star Klay Thompson, who plies his trade at the Golden State Warriors. The 32-year-old wears 11 on his back, with Morikawa suggesting he could do the same in the WM Phoenix Open.

Funnily enough, Morikawa’s first name has a hilarious ‘11’ joke on it as well. The Los Angeles-born realized it, and amicably, changed his Twitter bio. It now reads ‘Co11in’, followed by the golfer’s Instagram username.

Does Morikawa’s PIP rank justifiable?

Will Morikawa break into the top 10 next year? Or will he make it a hat-trick of finishing outside the elusive list? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
