After signing many golfers from the PGA Tour, the Saudi-backed circuit finished its last event in Miami. The previous year was tough, but this year will be better. As promised by the chief Greg Norman, the rebranded LIV Golf league has come up with a better approach to promote their team-based tournaments. Apart from signing a broadcasting deal with the CW Network, the whole LIV Golf is putting more effort into its marketing. And the new video of Phil Mickelson is proof of the same

Phil Mickelson has strived to improve marketing efforts

The marketing efforts of the HY Flyers GC are more visible than ever. A few days back, they posted a crash course of LIV Golf on Instagram. And now, they have posted another video showing behind the scenes. According to the post, ahead of the first event in Myakoba. And the 2021 U.S. Amateur winner, James Piot, was behind the camera. However, the most fun part was the guest director guiding Piot. It was none other than the former PGA Tour player, Phil Mickelson. He is also the captain of HY Flyers GC.

There was a green screen behind the golfer, taped to the wall. It created the perfect environment for shooting a video. But the things were not going as smoothly as expected. The idea was to make fans click the link to watch the highlights. However, the 24-year-old golfer was having difficulty promoting it, as he had never done it before. The director said, “Come on, give me a little something. Little energy. Like makes me want to tap.” Even though Piot was trying hard with a smile, he believed he was not good enough.

The surprised LIV defector asked, “Really?” Then he denied that he was the right choice and said, “I can’t sell.” Then the director fed him the exact lines he had to say, and Piot repeated exactly, with more flair. It is the perfect evidence of the improved marketing efforts of LIV. We will get to see the effects soon.

What is new this year for the Saudi-backed Tour?

According to Bob Harig of Sports Illustrated, the LIV Golf is bringing many new changes this year. The PGA Tour’s rival, the LIV Golf Invitational Series, has got a new name, the LIV Golf League. This year there will be 12 teams instead of eight unlike last year. Each team will have four members, including one captain each. This year, the captains had full freedom to choose their team mates or even recruit them.

The locations for this year will also include London, Bedminster, New Jersey, and Miami. Mexico and Australia are also on the list. Each event in the league will have prize money of $25 million, and the winners will take home $4 million. It makes the total purse of the 2023 season to reach a whopping total of $405 million.
