DeChambeau’s historic victory and ranking dilemma spark golfing community debates

DeChambeau stunned viewers with a remarkable final round of 12-under 58, registering his first win at LIV Golf. It was also the lowest score in the league’s short history.  The fallout from this historic win, however, took an unforeseen turn.

DeChambeau had plummeted to the 109th position in the OWGR, according to a tweet from well-known source LIV Golf Latest. Fans and industry insiders alike were perplexed and alarmed by the tweet because such a significant drop seemed inconsistent with his recent successes.

Hanky Haney then dropped his two cents on Twitter, sounding unhappy that the LIV events, as of now, don’t count for the OWGR. The league has to meet certain criteria before it can offer ranking points to players. Hank Haney said a lot through just four words: “Nice ranking system lol.”

Haney’s coaching experience and relationship with Tiger Woods gave his analysis credibility and sparked further debates about the OWGR’s complex formulas.

The OWGR currently does not take the outcomes from the LIV Golf platform into account. Since LIV Golf is a new company, it has not yet been incorporated into the OWGR, a system that measures players’ performances across recognized tournaments. As a reason, DeChambeau’s victory at the LIV Golf-hosted Greenbrier event had no bearing on his OWGR standing.

DeChambeau’s LIV Golf defection causes rift with Tiger Woods

Bryson DeChambeau last year clarified the fundamental causes of the tension in his friendship with golfing superstar Tiger Woods. DeChambeau’s choice to sign a lucrative deal with the LIV Golf organization, which is supported by Saudi Arabia, is what caused the conflict between the two professional players.

In a direct statement, Woods expressed his displeasure with players who chose to switch to LIV Golf and laid out his worries. He bemoaned what he perceived a break from the fundamental principles that had guided these guys to their current position.

DeChambeau presented his choice to go from the PGA tour to LIV Golf as a strategic business decision motivated by personal factors. He defended his decision in the face of criticism, expressing his tremendous respect for Woods’ viewpoints while also reiterating his individuality. DeChambeau said, “I have ultimate respect for what he has to say. For me personally, to be my own human being, I’m going to work even harder to prove the fact that I’m worth the price.”
