Yet another obstacle sits in TGL’s operation even before its inauguration! In 2023, the greats of the golf world, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, introduced an innovative simulator golf league. TGL was supposed to start its first match in January 2023, however, because of unforeseen circumstances, the inauguration date was delayed until 2025.

Now, as the TGL management keeps itself busy fixing the destroyed air dome, they have made one suggestion to Palm Beach State College, which has leased its campus area to TMRW Sports. However, the new idea has been met with a stern reaction from the college trustees, stalling TGL’s process.

Tiger Woods’s TGL met with another roadblock

On November 14, the SoFi center had two of its generators broken down, which caused the air-inflated dome to come crashing down. Moreover, the very next day, high winds thrashed the dome’s material to bits and pieces. This condition had TGL postponed to next year. Now, the latest update from TMRW Sports, the curator of TGL has made headlines.

As per Stet News, TGL authorities have proposed the idea to rebuild the arena but this time as a metal building, ditching the air-inflated idea. However, the college trustees are not in favor of the new concept. PBSC Trustee Wendy Link has asked the college management to “put lipstick on the pig.” She further explained, “I understand they have a business perspective, and they have to make this work from a business standpoint. We have to make it work from a college standpoint.”

According to Link, a metal building will not be appropriate to be built in the center of Palm Beach State College. She said, “We’re also talking about a building that you’re saying is going to be here for 50 years. So it can’t be just a Costco box. That won’t work.” The trustees want the SoFi arena to be more than just an unattractive building.

The college signed the agreement with NexGen Sports Group (TMRW Sports’s parent company) in 2022. The agreement at that time was based on the air-inflated dome, which would have enhanced the PBSC’s overall look. However, now, the trustees are requesting another thing to be added as plans have changed.

Earlier, the contract with NexGen Sports Group had greatly benefitted the PBSC and its students. As per the lease, the students were allowed to use the facility, which gave them training opportunities, development in the curriculum, and publicity to the college. Moreover, TMRW Sports made a $1 million donation to the PBSC Foundation.

On the other hand, the company had acquired the land, and that too without any rent until the contract expired. Now, the trustees, are demanding more from the contract. As the contract’s condition has changed from air dome to metal, and the college has a risk of tainting its public image, they have asked the company to give PBSC a part of TGL’s future proceedings.

The new hurdle posed by the college trustees may delay the construction of the TGL arena furthermore. Will Woods’s vision see the light in 2025? Only time will tell.
