Greg Norman, CEO of LIV Golf Invitational Series, is currently making the headlines in the golfing world. The Saudi-backed rival league led by Greg Norman is all set to begin in June 2022. However, there were plenty of obstacles in his way. Things had escalated quickly after Phil Mickelson’s comments about this league and PGA Tour. 

Recently, Greg Norman, in an interview, presented his views on how Phil’s comments hurt the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

“There’s no question it hurt,” said Norman. “It hurt a lot of aspects. It hurt the PGA Tour. And It hurt us. It hurt the game of golf. It hurt Phil. So yeah, across all fronts. It wasn’t just specifically to us. But it definitely created negative momentum against us.”

According to Greg Norman, when was the LIV Golf Invitational Series supposed to start?

Greg Norman made a surprising revelation that the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series was about to begin in February. He also said that they had plenty of golfers in the field, and they were ready to get associated with the league. However, the whole Phil Mickelson saga happened, and everyone got tensed.

Despite the whole Mickelson saga, Norman has revealed the LIV Golf Invitational Series will begin in June 2022. This worldwide series will have eight events, with an inaugural event in London a week before the U.S. Open.

The first seven events have a $255 million combined purse with a $25 million purse for each event. Additionally, the season-ending event will have a whopping $50 million prize money with a team championship. 

Hence, a few golfers, including Phil Mickelson, have asked for an exemption from the PGA Tour to compete in the inaugural event. However, the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour have already clarified that golfers competing in the rival league will face a complete ban from their respective tours. 

Hence, it will be interesting to see how things unfold as we head toward the first event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series. However, the former Australian golfer Greg Norman is confident about the league’s success. And he believes this will assist in growing the game of golf across the globe.
