It was evident that Nicklaus helped to build the community and design the well-known golf course it accommodated. And according to him, it was in response to his questioning the association’s decisions, which were under Bear’s Club Founding Partners’ control. The development company was aligned with Nicklaus and his family, and hence Sellers was pretty sure about the golfer’s involvement.
What did Sellers seek from his lawsuit against Nicklaus?
After notifying Palm Beach County with a letter about the issue, Sellers decide to file a lawsuit against Nicklaus. The former president compiled a 28-page filing along with 33 pages of supporting documents and evidence. And soon, he claimed that Nicklaus and his organizations were not happy with Seller’s involvement.
Sellers notified that other than losing his position as president, he also lost his membership in the Bear’s Club country club. Moreover, another club blackballed him, where the honorary members included Nicklaus. With the lawsuit, Sellers sought recovery for defamation, conspiracy, conversion of his $350,000 country club deposit, and much more. He also requested to again become a member of the Bear’s Club country club.

Jack Nicklaus is stuck in an all-new controversy involving another lawsuit
After having a beautiful golfing career, Nicklaus got into the golf course designing business. The golf legend partnered with Emigrant Bank, owned and controlled by Howard Milstein. After agreeing to own 51% shares of Nicklaus Companies LLC, he allowed Milstein to buy the remaining 41% shares. But things didn’t go as smoothly as Nicklaus thought they would.
Soon after the recession hit, Milstein invested more money in the company, taking control of all operations in the organization. Nicklaus, being the former owner, had no choice but to let Milstein take complete control. He even stated that Milstein gave him no respect in return for how well Nicklaus treated him.
But things got even worse when Nicklaus decided to leave the company and serve his five-year-long notice period. Milstein was allegedly infuriated by Nicklaus’ decision to quit and took crucial steps toward him. Fed up with what was going on, Nicklaus soon gave up his seat on the board and resigned from all directorships. But Milstein filed a lawsuit against Nicklaus in the same month later.
