Jon Rahm declares major championships

Rahm entered this week at the no.4 spot on the FedEx Cup ranking. This is such a beneficial position that top golfers like Justin Thomas failed to achieve despite his fervent desire, and are now dependent on other alternatives. And while Rahm is happy to be playing for the $75 million Tour Championship, he has cleared that there are other events that are more important to him.

Before the game begins on Thursday, Jon Rahm in a press conference, was asked how winning the FedExCup would rank. To this, the former world No 1 player replied while the FedEx Cup is important in his view the major championships are of greater importance.

He said, “Well, I wouldn’t want to give you a ranking while I’m here at the FedExCup finale of what’s more important than others, but obviously, majors are the most important thing in golf, right? That’s how it’s been and that’s kind of how it is.”

The 28-year-old so far has won two majors – the US Open in 2021 and the Masters Tournament this year. He has also made numerous top-10 finishes in other majors. However, his run in the playoff has also not been that bad.

At the St Jude Championship, he finished the final round on T37, and last week at the BMW Championship, he finished on T31. Moreover, the second playoff was a big test of his patience. Rahm, who is notoriously famous for his profane language on the course, was struggling throughout the event to maintain mental composure, which finally broke as he ended using cuss words on the ground.
