Christina Kim, like many other golfers and athletes, has faced abuse and hatred. The LPGA Star turned pro in 2002. Since then, she’s been subjected to the harsh reality of the negative side of the golf community. But the outspoken and open Kim never let that phase her, and the reason for that was heartbreaking. She had already heard it all before as a child.

Christina Kim talks about the abuse

Back in 2020, Kim appeared on a podcast for The Bunkered. There, she spoke about the hate. Kim joined Twitter in 2009. She claimed it was a “much safer place” back then. She explained that Facebook had become very negative towards her. Hence the golfer moved to Twitter and found the experience to be “beautiful” and “love-filled.”

That soon changed, and Christina joined the hundreds of others that were subjected to the harshness and coldness of social media. But abuse and hatred were not new to Christina. She had been dealing with trolls ever since her childhood. Kim was born in America and brought up with Korean values. As a child, she was frequently bullied for this. Christina said that along with the hate, people had gone so far as to even threaten her life. “You know, I received death threats for well over ten years,” she said, unflinchingly.

She explained that the trolls couldn’t wrap their head around her growing in America, surrounded by American culture, so they often trolled her because of it. “I have been vilified and absolutely strung up and quartered online,” she said. But Kim never let the hate get to her.

The LPGA golfer challenges her haters

The 38-year-old golfer went on to tell her haters that their trolls we’re enough. She had already suffered a lot of abuse and hatred, but they couldn’t phase her. “Don’t even try because you don’t even want to know the dark, deep, awful things that I can say to myself,” she said.

To all the trollers out there who called her fat, old, and a has-been, she said that she had heard it all before. She went on to tell them that it didn’t bother her anymore, challenged them and said, “If you’re going to come at me, at least try and be creative.“
