Phil Mickelson has always been the talk of the golf world. It is safe to say he is one of the most controversial players right now. The LIV Golf legend has been on the radar for quite some time now, ever since he joined the Saudi League.
Lefty’s $200,000,000 decision to move to LIV golf 2 years back, did not sit well with many of the PGA Tour’s loyalists. One can always find an ongoing beef between him and other PGA Tour members. Although Mickelson is also not doing great in majors, we are witnessing a spectacular rise on his OWGR leaderboard.

Major Rise in Mickelson’s Ranking
The biggest con for LIV golfers was that the LIV Tour’s events do not feature any Official World Golf Ranking points. And LIV Golfers are not even allowed to compete in PGA Tour events to maintain their ranking streak. Many LIV Golfers experienced a significant drop in their global rankings as a result.
After switching to LIV Golf, Mickelson stood in 425th place. Not only did this plague him, but his performances at the LIV Golf events were not even impressive. Lefty returned to the top 100 golfers on the OWGR leaderboard as a result of his incredible performance at the Masters, when he tied for second place with another LIV golfer, Brooks Koepka. He finished 72nd at that point.

However, he grabbed the fifty-second position for himself in the PGA Championship and missed the cut in both the US Open and the Open Championship. As a result, his standing fell, and now, as per owgr.com, Mickelson’s current OWGR rank stands at 90.
It must be surreal for him to be in the top 100 now after being outside of it before the Masters. Overall, he made a 335 rank giant leap after joining LIV Golf. Additionally, this is not his only accomplishment. He also kept a record on the PGA Tour, where he is second only to Tiger Woods.
Phil Mickelson’s record at the PGA Tour
Even though Mickelson’s PGA Tour days are long gone, his influence on the Tour hasn’t diminished. Lefty won 45 PGA Tour championships and amassed official tour earnings of over $96,577,701 throughout his career at his former Tour.

He is only behind Tiger Woods, his longstanding rival, who reportedly made $120,954,766. Even though Lefty is currently banned from competing in PGA Tour competitions, another golfer might eventually replace him.
Mickelson will always be in the spotlight, whether it be for his performance, his opinion on LIV Golf, or any other reason. But the point of it all is that Mickelson, a six-time major champion, consistently demonstrates why he is one of the finest players in the world with so much at stake. And evidence of this can be found in his present ranking.
