The US Open 2023 had a Hollywood-style ending at the Los Angeles Country Club North Course. This, unfortunately, wasn’t in favor of fan favorite Rickie Fowler. It was Fowler against Wyndham Clark during the final round.

And Clark outperformed Fowler throughout the final round and lifted the trophy with an even-par 70. Fowler choked in the final round with a five-over 75, after leading the field for the first three days. The five-time PGA Tour Winner would obviously be disheartened.

A Father’s Day gesture to ease the pain

Before hitting the last hole, Fowler noticed his family in the crowd cheering him on. It was visible that this was a personal moment of ease for the golfer. His wife, Allison Stokke Fowler, took to social media to post heartwarming images of Fowler and his daughter Mya on the greens on Father’s Day.

“…Being able to see my daughter before scoring, it kind of takes a lot of that away because in the kind of big picture, big scheme of things,” Fowler said.

“Yes, we want to win tournaments and be the one holding the trophy, but she could care less if I shoot 65 or 85. I was excited that she was able to stay up.” Fowler added.

While the loss was crushing for Fowler, the joy of seeing his young daughter there on the greens to cheer him on eased the pain of the final round. Fowler joined his wife and daughter after the round ended and shared an emotional family moment.

Another disappointment for Rickie Fowler

The last round of US Open 2023 didn’t see Fowler at his best. Considering he had hit a record 8-under par 62 in the first round and stayed atop the leaderboard for three days, it was hard to believe that his game fell apart without any prior warning. It was a great opportunity for him to win his first major, alas, things took a terrible turn in the final round to undo all his great work in the previous rounds.

Fowler may have come a cropper on Sunday but, even after the loss, watching Fowler unite with his daughter and wife showed that the golfing star in the game had something more important than the trophy.
