Jessica Korda made her LPGA debut in the year when she was just 18. As the oldest sister of the three Korda siblings, Jessica was an inspiration to them. Following a similar path, Nelly Korda also joined the game of golf after her sister.

The sisters share a strong bond. However, in the early days, Jessica decided to leave her younger sister alone in order to pursue her goals. In their first-ever joint interview, the 6 times LPGA Tour winner confessed why she had to take the harsh decision of leaving Nelly alone.

Nelly Korda debuted only five years after her elder sister, Jessica Korda. Coming from an athletic family, Jessica knew her presence in Nelly’s life might overpower her true self. In 2018, the Korda sisters sat down with Alan Shipnuck on the Drop Zone podcast.

This was the first time Nelly and Jessica were together for a casual interview. While narrating a story about Nelly, always attempting to join Jessica with her friends, Shipnuck asked her if that was the case even on the LPGA Tour. Jessica confessed and said, “My whole thing is when she came out, I wanted her to be her own person, find her own friends,” the eldest sister then assured her that she was “gonna be here” whenever Nelly needed her.

Moreover, Jessica shared, “I want her to be her own person. I don’t want to have the disadvantage of having to be with like my little sister at all times. You know, like, I want her to be Nelly. And whoever Nelly is, wherever she figures out that she is. That’s perfectly fine with me. But I just want her to be able to grow on her own.”

The elder Korda sister disclosed that she did not want her personality to overshadow that of Nelly. The sisters have been together for the whole of their childhood and, in the growing years, Nelly “wanted to do everything” that Jessica was doing. While she accompanied her most of the time, when growing professionally, Jessica made sure to give her the space needed for the betterment of her goals.

The Korda sisters now turn to their lives as both of them are in different phases altogether. While one sister awaits her firstborn the other one tries to end the 2023 season on a wonderful note.
