LET Golf was happy to share her precious words with her fans on Instagram. Noja was especially touched to see such a beautiful turnout comprising women and girls during the tournament. “I did have some people who stuck through the rain, which I really appreciate,” she smiled. “They gave me some flowers.” In order to express her appreciation for her little fans, she gave one of them a ball. “It is so nice seeing little girls out here and you know it’s a women’s event. And seeing young girls and hopefully future tour players out here, it’s really nice.”

The Ladies European Tour wasn’t the only place where female audiences came to show their support. IrishGolferMag also took to Twitter to share a few words about the passionate crowd that cheered on the female golfers during the Meijer LPGA Classic.

During the interview with IrishGolfMag, Leona Maguire said, “This is some of the best crowds I think we get all year, definitely of a nonmajor. I think it’s nice to see so many kids out there as well and people cheering you on.” Despite her phenomenal gameplay, she truly seemed to enjoy the crowd’s gusto even more.

It is a revelation to see young girls excited by the professional sporting event that has been dominated by male players for years.

After 212 years, female golfers are getting the recognition they deserve

Women playing golf is not a new concept at all. In fact, it was the Queen of Scots, Mary who generated the word ‘caddie’ back in the mid-1500s. Since then, many women have picked up a club and taken swings alongside men, showing their interest and respect for the sport. On January 9th, 1811, the first-ever golf tournament was held for women players. Surprisingly, back then, golf was considered more of a sport for women.

Years later, on March 22nd 1934, the Augusta National Master’s Tournament first started introducing men to professional golf. Later, the tournament was renamed the ‘Masters.’ Soon after, in 1950, the Tampa Women’s Open provided a much-needed opportunity for female golfers to share their skills. Since then the LPGA has been actively encouraging young women with enthusiasm to turn pro and play the royal sport.
