Despite Their Rough Split, Ex-Wife Elin Nordegren Once Confessed Her True Feelings on Why Tiger Woods Appealed to Her

Elin Nordegren and Tiger Woods were once considered one of the most iconic couples in sports. They were married for six years, but their relationship was plagued by scandal and infidelity, ultimately leading to their divorce in 2010. Despite the rough split, Nordegren has said that there was one special occasion in their relationship that she considers to be one of the happiest days of her life. In a 2010 interview with People magazine, Nordegren revealed that her wedding day to Woods was one of the happiest days of her life. Tiger has always been more vocal about the mistakes he committed more than two decades ago with Elin.

The unimaginable nightmare unfolded in front of Elin Nordegren on Thanksgiving in 2009. Tiger’s car crash exposed the hidden and hurtful reality of Woods’ double life. But even when she felt her life was sinking, she faced the press and media with silence. The Swedish model, in an interview with PEOPLE in 2010, said, “My plan was to just stay the way I was. For my kids, I felt that [remaining private] was the only normalcy I could give them, since they have a very famous dad.” Clearly, Nordegren did everything to protect her kids from the nightmare that she was going through.

On being asked why she wanted to share her life with Tiger. She replied, “I loved him, we had so much fun, and I felt safe with him.” She further told, “Our wedding day was one of the happiest days of my life.”

Elin gave a heart-wrenching reply to how the months past the huge revelation had been. She said, “It is hard to describe the emotional roller coaster I have been on, and it’s not over yet.” She further said, “…am following — the stages of grief that I have learned in my psychology studies: shock, bargaining, anger, depression—and I am still working on the last stage, forgiveness and/or acceptance.”

Elin opened up about the betrayal of Tiger Woods

Elin Nordegren maintained her silence over controversies pertaining to her relationship with the golfer. She broke her silence for the first time in an interview with People back in 2010. On being asked what was her reaction when she got to know about the dual life that Tiger was living. Elin said, “I was completely shocked.” She further reiterated, “I felt stupid as more things were revealed — how could I not have known anything?”

With hurt in her eyes and voice, she said, “

The word betrayal isn’t strong enough. I felt like my whole world had fallen apart.” She expressed that she felt as if she was betrayed not only by Tiger but when the people around her, for keeping her in dark. 

She revealed that the betrayal by Tiger reignited her childhood trauma. All she wanted to give her children was a solid, intact family. But she realized they could never be good parents without trust between them, and it was better for the two to separate. It is needless to say that the duo has aced co-parenting. They have made both Charlie and Sam into elegant and well-behaved human beings. The two are now back to being friends and have moved on to better things.
