“If somebody said to me, Steve this particular player is done these activities. Would the caddy know, given the facts of the amount of time I spent with Tiger and how close we were? I would say if it was somebody else it would be very difficult not to know and I agree with that,” Williams said.

On being asked about his friendship with Woods over the past few years, Williams mentioned that camaraderie has changed significantly. “I don’t think anybody that would be in the situation would say things of, you know, there’s no change,” he said. “I mean, it’s no question that there was a difficult time and our relationship obviously deteriorated very quickly, no two ways about it.”

Steve Williams started caddying for Tiger Woods in 1999 after the latter’s then-coach, Butch Harmon, approached him. Woods and Williams extended their friendship beyond golf – The former was Steve’s best man at the Kiwi’s wedding. Woods was also a regular in Williams’ dirt track races. After the separation, Steve caddied for Australian golfer, Adam Scott and was recently seen carrying clubs for Jason Day in 2019.
