After missing the Sentry Tournament of Champions in January, the Irish professional has now missed his second designated event for the season. But his withdrawal came at a cost, and it was huge! According to sources, the golfer will be losing $3 million from his $12 million PIP bonus from 2022.

Fans are eagerly waiting for McIlroy’s reaction toward his potential $3 million punishment for skipping the event. However, neither the golfer nor his representatives have responded to the matter yet. PGA Tour pro, Justin Thomas also put forward his views about the big penalty. “It doesn’t matter who you are, that’s a ton of money,” he said.

“Rules are the rules,” the player said. “A lot of what he wanted is what’s happening. And the irony is that he’s not here.” The player also talked about how Monahan was responsible to inform the Tour about McIlroy’s situation if he was already aware of it. “I imagined he’d communicate to the membership… It’s a lot of money. It’s a big deal. A lot of people want to know what’s going on,” the golfer said.
