The battle between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour has been at the center of golf news for the last couple of months now. LIV Golf started in 2020. Many players left the PGA Tour to sign with and play for LIV Golf. Among them are Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Sergio Garcia. Besides the famous players, there is also one who takes an open stand for LIV Golf, Donald Trump.

Trump, who is an avid golfer, has played alongside many greats, like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods. His involvement with LIV Golf was soon after its incorporation. Not only was doing business with LIV Golf a great opportunity, but its CEO, Greg Norman, and Donald Trump have known each other for a long time. Because of this, it was inevitable that Trump would be part of the Saudi-backed series.

How is Donald Trump involved with LIV Golf?

LIV Golf saw its incorporation in October 2022. Ever since then, the series has signed many star players and grown in size and viewership. When the opportunity came along for Trump to be a part of it, he couldn’t turn it down.

Being a golf enthusiast as well as a highly successful business tycoon, Trump saw his involvement in the Saudi-backed series as the smart choice. Donald Trump sees the series as growing to become as big as, if not bigger than, the PGA tour. He has since been an outspoken supporter of the league.

Trump’s golf courses saw two of the LIV Golf Tournaments played there during the year. The first was at the end of July at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, New Jersey. And the second was the Team Championship tournament played recently at the Trump National Doral in Miami.

Trump’s take on the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s feud

Trump’s involvement in the Saudi-backed series has been evident for a while now. He also took part in the pro-am event, in Miami before LIV Golf’s team championship tournament. After the event, he spoke out to the press about the situation between the two series. “I think ultimately maybe something gets worked out, but the tour mishandled it so badly,” he said.

Donald Trump believes that the PGA Tour had the upper hand and could have been able to negotiate a great deal. “They had not only an advantage, they were dealing with very good people with unlimited money.” He believes something could have easily been worked out between the two sides, but the people at the PGA Tour, “decided to go, as Richard Nixon said, to stonewall it.

Notably, the former POTUS is certain that the PGA Tour made a mistake by not making a deal with LIV Golf. He is positive that the management of the PGA Tour has doomed itself. He said, “The people at the top, something should happen with them, they mishandled it so badly,” and then went on to add, “That didn’t work out too well for them.”
