John Daly, 56, is famous for numerous other things than his golfing skills. From his non-country club looks to his colorful pants, there is something different about him. However, another thing that differentiates him from other golfers is his love for beer! Moreover, he once confessed to drinking mid-tournament.

When John Daly admitted to consuming alcohol during his round on the field

John Daly is adored for many things including his honesty with his fans. The golf legend has been in several interviews where he has magnificently owned up to all his flaws and bad habits. And one of Long John’s worst habits, as he calls it, was excessive alcohol consumption.

The golf star has talked about his struggles with quitting alcohol several times. However, nothing has seemed to work for him yet. And he once opened up about a tournament that he played with 5 beers in his system. And as he described it, he “played great” and “finished strong”!

In conversation at ESPN’s documentary ‘Hit It Hard’, Daly revealed the rather unbelievable tale of his wonderful performance. And surprisingly, he gave credit for his performance at the LA Open to alcohol.

“I never had any alcohol on the golf course that I remember, except for one time, and that was the LA Open,” he said. “It was so slow and I played the back nine first. I think I’m two or three over…I went into the locker room and downed like five beers, and I think I shot four under on the front nine.”

Well, not very startling coming from a man who once had a stroke, and the next thing he wanted was some drinks. “That is the only time I know that I ever drank during a round, and I played great. I played great that week. I finished strong,” he had once said.

However, there had been several instances when the golfer would show up at his tournament venues drunk or hungover. He even admitted this in an interview with Graham Bensinger. There are tons of other confession stories that came from John Daly in his interviews. And his fans absolutely love it.
