All thanks to the prestige it holds and the honor it brings, the names that have made the team on both sides will find themselves encircled by the same. Hence, it was not surprising when Shane Lowry found himself in a similar condition.

However, his answer at the 2023 Horizon Irish Open drew out a rather candid stance. It was in the context of both the individuals who will represent the European team and those who have been left out; especially focusing on Adrian Meronk. The 2019 Open Championship winner appeared to be unconditionally supporting his captain, Luke Donald, and his choices.

Shane Lowry issues his verdict on Adrian Meronk’s exclusion

This is no news to anyone that many hearts were broken when rosters of both the Ryder Cup teams came out. One such name was the 30-year-old Polish golfer Adrian Meronk. The golfer, despite having a fairly good season, couldn’t impress the European captain enough to be included in the team.

But this did not prevent the golf world from buzzing with opinions about how he should have been able to play in Rome this month. Cruising similar lines, one of the reporters asked Shane Lowry about this dominant thought that has surrounded the European team selection. However, per the golfer, “Adrian has had a great year, and obviously, he’s unfortunate to miss out, but somebody has to miss out.”

Lowry even confessed to being unbothered by the opinion of everyone around. He expressed how he isn’t going to sit around and disagree with the captain, despite it not being his job. According to him, Donald had a decision to make, and it was all on his shoulders at the end of the day.

Shane Lowry’s conception of ease of pressure thanks to captain’s picks

The Irish golfer grabbed his spot in the European Team after being in the good books of captain Luke Donald. Hence while sitting for a press conference in Ireland, the questions surrounded the selection and the golfer’s thoughts on it. One specific question caught the eye of everyone around.

The PGA Tour professional was asked if having six picks from the captain’s side makes things easier on the minds of the golfers. Lowry, in an earnest manner, answered affirmatively.

He mentioned cruising through the list and noticing how the captain has tried to bring forth his best 12 players. This could only be possible with the leisure of having 6 picks in his hand. Giving his full support to his captain, the golfer reiterated that for him, this is the best team Europe could come to Italy to play with.
