Following last week’s event in Japan, the DP World Tour now heads across the sea to Korea for its next event. The 18th event on the schedule, the Korea Championship, begins on Thursday this week. With many top names from the European Tour taking the field at a monumental golf legend’s course and a lot at stake, the tournament allures fans to it, promising them more than a good time.

The field and format of the Korea Championship

This year’s Korea Championship will see 60 Korean golfers from both the DP World Tour and the Korean PGA Tour take to the field. The event will be played at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea from Thursday to Sunday.

Wang Jeung-hun is one of the local favorites to grab a win this week, but it certainly won’t be a cakewalk. Joining him on the field will be Robert MacIntyre, Jordan Smith, Yannik Paul, and a total of 152 more players. All of whom will be looking to take home the trophy at the end of the week.

Just like in all other Tour events, more than half the field will be eliminated early and not play on Sunday. On Friday, following 36 holes, a cut will be made, with only the top 65 players and ties proceeding to play in the final two rounds of the tournament.

The winner’s perks at the event

Fortunately, all who make the cut will receive part of the whopping $2 million purse. On Sunday, the winner will take home $340,000, which is in line with the standard 17% payout as per the European Tour’s prize money distribution chart. But that’s not all in store for the winner!

Along with the trophy and the huge prize money, the victor will also earn 17 OWGR points, with availability based on the strength of the field. Moreover, they will also receive an exemption on the European Tour for two or more seasons, along with berths in other big events. 2,750 Race to Dubai points are also available for the entire field, which will count towards the season-long count.
