A sad day for the security protocol of the PGA Tour in golf

Adrian Meronk, a Polish professional golfer who plays on the DP World Tour, almost suffered an unexpected loss. After his opening round, he discovered someone had stolen his TrackMan and iPad at PGA National. The 2022 Horizon Irish Open winner shot a three-under round of 67 to open his tournament. He was part of the later tee times on Thursday; therefore, the pro golfer stayed at the venue until 8:30 pm. However, on early Friday, Meronk thought he was dreaming when he opened his locker, as he found almost $20,000 worth of items missing.

The news spread like a jungle fire, and the on-site local authorities became active. Cops analyzed the video surveillance, and thankfully, they spotted the culprit. In the video, they saw a 40-year-old man called Matthew Archer enter the locker room after 8.30 pm. He was working there as one of the vendors at the Honda Classic. Fourteen minutes later, he was seen in a gray golf shirt leaving the locker room, carrying two bags.

After the investigation, Archer was sent to the Palm Beach County jail and was charged with burglary and grand theft. But thankfully, the 29-year-old golfer got his TrackMan and iPad back. After the incident, the World number 52 golfer said, “I could track the (TrackMan) on the phone, so the last seen location was like 600 yards away from the clubhouse in the buildings, so we showed that to the police.” He said he was not even mad after the burglary because he couldn’t believe it. However, it wasn’t the first time that a golfer has been robbed.

It was the fourth event for the golfer on the PGA Tour when he almost lost his belongings. But his innocence was commendable after the incident. He said, “I thought someone must have taken it by mistake, but how do you take it by mistake?” However, the incident had a happy ending, and the quick actions of the police satisfied him. Thankfully, it did not affect his performance. He finished six-under for the event and was in a tie for 14th. It was his best finish on the PGA Tour yet.
