Dustin Johnson Faces a Major Setback For the First Time in 7 Years

Dustin Johnson was a part of the field last week at the Valspar Championship. The two-time major championship winner made a strong finish with a tied 39th at the event. However, a new stat released by Golf Digest is not one he would like to see, as it speaks otherwise of his performance.

Johnson, who is yet to win an event on the PGA Tour since the November 2020 Masters, has now dropped out of the top 10 in the OWGR. Although he won the Saudi Internation on the DP World Tour last year, Dustin for the first time in seven years has dropped out of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

He is now World Number 11. Not to forget, the American Professional was even ranked as the Number One in the Official World Golf Rankings at a point.

He maintained that spot for 135 weeks, which puts him in the third position after Tiger Woods and Greg Norman. Notably, Johnson was already the World Number One before his Masters victory in 2020.

Sam Burns, who pulled off an emphatic win at the Copperhead Course with an epic playoff victory recently, moved inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings. As a result, Dustin slipped out, despite his tied 39th position finish.

Moreover, Johnson has only one win in his last 14 full PGA Tour seasons. Now, he is still finding his first win of the 2022 season. His best finish for the current season came at the Players Championship, where he finished in tied ninth position.

Johnson’s 2020 Masters win

Dustin won the delayed 2020 Masters in an emphatic fashion. He picked up his first green jacket and second major win at Augusta in 2020. He won the event with an overall score of 20-under-par, with a whopping five-shot lead on Sunday.

Johnson also won a prize money share of $2,070,000. He carded a final round of 68, four-under-par on his route to a famous victory. Not to mention, his final round of 69 included three birdies and two bogeys on the front nine; As a result, moving out in one-under-par, 35. He made three birdies and rest all pars on the back nine as well, to card a three-under-par, 33 back nine.
