Injuries while playing sports is part and parcel of the game. But when injuries occur during off-the-course is rare. A few years back, Dustin Johnson suffered from one such injury due to an accident that occurred off the field. In 2019, his wife, Paulina Gretzky, disclosed the reason behind the misfortune.

The American professional had to withdraw from the 2017 Masters due to an accident at his rental home. Johnson came to Augusta National Golf Club for a practice round a few days prior to the main event. However, the course was closed for the day after 1:00 PM due to a storm.

Johnson fell from the staircase of his accommodation. As a result, he landed with great force on his lower back and injured himself. Although he was given anti-inflammatory medication and started the icing process immediately, a nerve was involved in his fall from the stairs.

Moreover, he turned up hoping he could play and came to the practice grounds one hour before his tee time. But he withdrew from the 2017 Masters without even hitting a single shot. As a result, he became the fourth World Number One to miss a major championship.

Paulina’s words ended all the speculations about why DJ had fallen from the stairs. At the same time, it also shows the funny side of Johnson’s better half.
