However, one of the policies will be the reason for a huge loss for the golf giants, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, as the Twitter following of the PGA Tour stars will take a huge hit.

Tiger and Rory are two of the most popular golfers on the professional circuit currently. Their massive fan following on the course also follows them off the course on social media. Both men’s combined followers amount to nearly 10 million on Twitter.

However, following billionaire tycoon, Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover of Twitter, the number of followers will be most likely being tumbling down. Let’s take a look at how many fake followers both men have and which other golfers will suffer with them.

How many fake followers do Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have?

After Musk’s takeover of the social media giant, he promised to crack down on fake and spam accounts. Many celebs including golfers happen to have millions of bot accounts as followers, which will eventually be removed by the company.

The 15-time Major winner, Tiger Woods, has the highest number of fake followers in the golf world. He has a following of nearly 2.6 million people that are deemed to be false. Meanwhile, his friend Rory McIlroy’s fake followers are just over a million with the right amount being 1.1 million.

Just 100,000 fake followers below stands LIV Golf star, Ian Poulter. Along with Sergio Garcia, Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Brooks Koepka, and Rickie Fowler all have a lot of false followers.

The former US PGA champion, Jason Dufner, who would lose 52% of his following if Musk stuck to his promise, has the greatest percentage of false followers. Luke Donald, the captain of Team Europe for the Ryder Cup, is not far behind with more than 49% of his followers being bot accounts.

Though Woods, McIlroy, and all other golfers may end up losing millions of followers on Twitter, their influence and fan following off the social media remains intact. They have earned the love and respect of their fans through their hard work, which could hardly ever be broken.
