Tiger and Steve both shared a strong bond as a caddie and professional. Moreover. Under Williams’ reign, Woods achieved greater heights in the sport. Woods completed the Tiger Slam in golf in 2000, when he won three of the remaining major championship events. The ex-caddie saw Woods through thick and think in his career and was the prominent architect in Tiger’s win at the 1999 PGA Championship.

Furthermore, Williams recently spoke about an emotional moment regarding the 15-time major championship winners victory at the 2006 British Open. It was Woods’ first major tournament win after his father had passed away earlier in May 2006. Steve revealed what he whispered in Tiger’s ears while walking down the fairway.

Steve spoke about the same in one of the episodes of the podcast Chasing Majors. When asked if he remembered what he whispered in Woods’ ears, Williams revealed about the incident. He said, ” I mentioned that coming down the fairway and I just I just said this one’s for pops. Just this is major number that whatever it was and I said this one’s for pops never forget it was pretty special.”

He added, “Yeah I just like I said to him when we’re walking down the fairway in the sunshine for that so that’s Pop’s looking down and then I pointed out I said this majors that’s that’s the pop sign that is his major championship.” Moreover, Woods’ ex-caddies words prove how much that win meant to both of them and how much love he has for his father. It is probably one of the most memorable major championship victories in Woods’ career.

Woods 2006 Open win summary

Tiger won his 11th major championship event at the 2006 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. It was his 49th win and probably one of the most remarkable ones. Woods won the event with an overall score of 18-under-par. As a result, the former World Number One won the event with a comfortable two-shot cushion after the final round. Moreover, Woods carded a final round of four-under-par, 67 to triumph at the major championship event.

His final round of 67 included only a single eagle and all pars on the opening nine holes on Sunday. In turn, he moved out in two-under-par, 33. Woods made four birdies and a single bogey on the back nine to win at Royal Liverpool. Furthermore, Chris DiMarco finished as the runner-up to Tiger. Chris ended the event with an overall score of 16-under-par. As a result, he had to settle for a solo second position finish on the leaderboard.
