While he caddied for Team Europe’s 16 Ryder Cup outings, one of his major accomplishments came while caddying for Matt Fitzpatrick. During his 6-year-long association with Fitzpatrick, the veteran caddie won his maiden U.S. Open title back in 2022. However, Fitzpatrick was not the only big name that Billy Foster caddied for. In fact, he rubbed shoulders with one of the absolute legends of all time, Tiger Woods.

Back in 2005, Steve Williams, Woods’ usual bagman, took time off for the birth of his child. With the Presidents Cup approaching, Woods was desperate to find someone. And in came Foster, who was caddying for Darren Clarke at that time. Woods immediately approached Clarke and asked if he would allow Foster to carry his bags for a week. Much to the relief of Woods, Clarke agreed instantly, and Foster elevated his CV further by adding Woods’ name to it. However, the root of the actual reason why Woods might have chosen Foster as his caddie goes back quite a few years.

The veteran golf caddie appeared on the October 21 episode of the ‘RickSheilsGolfShow,’ and went on to narrate his famous ‘toilet-gate’ incident with Woods. Foster stated that back in 2002, he was caddying for Team Europe against Team USA. However, just minutes away from his tee, Woods decided to make a quick bathroom run. And in the most nightmarish moment possible, he ran out of toilet paper! “It was Ryder Cup 2002. First match, first morning, was Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn playing Tiger Woods and Paul Azinger. So l go into the toilets. There’s C.B. Y. Davis Love’s caddie in there. ‘Morning, Cubby.’ ‘Morning, Billy.’ So I sit down, trousers around the ankles, look across-oh my god, no toilet paper. Full reverse across the corridor to trap two. Sit down. Look behind me—20 rolls of toilet paper on the shelf behind,” said Foster.

Next up, much to his horror, he realized that Woods had walked into the loo where there was no toilet paper. With just six minutes to go for teeing, Foster had no other option than to slide him some toilet paper from under the door. “Now I’m using the excess toilet paper, I’m drying my eyes ’cause I’m crying, crying ’cause like there’s six minutes to tee off here now or something like that, and I’m the only man in the world that knows that Jesus is in there with no toilet paper. So I’ve gone back, rolled up about 20 sheets, and I’ve gone down on my hands and knees under his toilet door. And whoever’s in there, I said, ‘You might be needing this.’ As I walked out, I went, ‘You’re one up.'”

“And sure enough, they beat them one up. And he came out with the biggest smile on his face and said, ‘You owe me big time.’ Tiger went, ‘Billy, I owe you big time,'” Foster added further. Surely, this was a hilarious incident that Foster believed helped him carry the bags for Woods.

Meanwhile, it looks like Foster still cares for Woods, as he shared his take on the golfing legend’s ACL injury at the start of the 2025 season.

Billy Foster believes in Tiger Woods to win again despite a fresh surgery setback

Tiger Woods‘ star-studded career has been marked by a series of injuries and setbacks. Owing to the same, the legend had to go through a series of treatments and surgeries. On October 10, yet another surgery was successfully conducted on Woods. As shared by the golfer himself, it was a lumbar disc replacement surgery for a collapsed L4/5 disc, disc fragments, and a compromised spinal canal. At the beginning of the year, on March 11, 2025, Woods succumbed to an Achilles injury. It took such a serious turn that many feared that it might draw an unexpected end to his career. But Billy Foster had a different opinion to share.

Speaking about the Achilles tendon injury, Woods shared, “As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured.” He also shared an update about how minimally invasive Achilles tendon repair was conducted to cure his rupture. Since the horrifying car crash of 2021, Woods’ life has been marked by injuries and surgeries. And after the Achilles injury, several golf enthusiasts believed that it was already time for the 49-year-old Woods to bid farewell to the sport. But at the very same time, Foster stated, “Tiger can still win on the tour.”

Sharing his opinion on the matter, he further added, “But he needs to play eight to ten events a year. His leg is obviously very bad but if he can get any sort of strength in it, and can start playing just a handful of tournaments more than he has, he can still compete and I still believe he can win.” Now, as the golfing star recovers from his latest back surgery, fans can only wait to see him sink one more unforgettable putt.
