The 2024 Presidents Cup was filled with drama. Kim and Sungjae Im were playing well, and Kim had just made a crucial putt on the 8th hole. After draining the putt, which was met with a loud cheer and celebration, Kim and Im, clearly excited by their success, started heading to the 9th tee box. They didn’t care to wait for Scottie Scheffler to finish his putt. His behavior was also called disrespectful. That was not all.
Wyndham Clark took a playful jab at Si Woo Kim’s Steph Curry’s “night night” inspired celebration. In response, Byeong-Hun An quickly posted a reply, saying, “You always have a guy in your group who doesn’t do s–t but talk s–t all day,” accompanied by a laughing emoji. To this Clark replied, “Then there is the guy who didn’t have a tee time,” as Hun An didn’t play on Saturday in the morning fourballs and afternoon foursomes. Both Kim and An fell into the negative limelight during the Presidents Cup this year but they do share a great bond.
Byeong Hun An and Tom Kim have not only played on the International team at the 2024 Presidents Cup together but have also played against each other. At the 2024 Genesis Championship, Hun An entered the Sunday round with a tied lead with Tom Kim. They both finished with a 17-under and were caught in a final playoff hole. While An carded a birdie, Kim ended up with a bogey, resulting in him being defeated.

Byeong Hun An, in his recent exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, when asked what it is like to play with Kim, said, “I’ve known him pretty well. It looks like a battle between two of us and maybe one of the guys um because you’re close all day I think it is more like a battle with it with you almost um because you know you have this thought coming into your head which is you know same for everybody um you’re just almost battling yourself and doesn’t look at others score and I think that’s what I did last round I had a little shaky start didn’t have the best start and then and I kept my head down trying to play my golf um and I played a great back night and had given myself a chance to go in the playoff.”

While for Byeong Hun An, the playoff was successful, for Tom Kim it turned out to be a rather frustrating one, and it was evident in his behavior.

Tom Kim could not hold his frustration after the playoff
The last time Tom Kim clinched the trophy was at the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open. Coming so close to victory and yet losing at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club was something the 22-year-old could wrap his head around calmly. First, he went and congratulated Byeong Hun An on his victory and then rushed to the locker room. But he ended up unhinging the door in sheer frustration. He later stated his actions on Instagram and accepted his fault but said he had “no intent of damaging any part of the locker.”

Surprisingly, the door was unhinged because he opened it with force instead of the allegations that he hit it per his statement. Additionally, the KPGA was supposed to take disciplinary action against Kim for this but that did not happen. What are your thoughts about the behavior of the Korean player?
