Athletes and sportspersons are idols for a reason. The effort they put into preparation for the big day is inspirational. One such golfer of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) amazed fans with his dedication. Mikumu Horikawa put in three extra hours of practice on the golf course after his play was over for the day.

As seen in a video shared on social media, the golfer is teeing off way past his playing time. Even as dusk hit the day, Horikawa continued practicing at the Zozo Championship 2023. His admirers were appreciative of his efforts and expressed it on his Instagram post.

Mikumu Horikawa – legend in the making?

The official Instagram handle of the PGA Tour posted the Japanese pro’s video. Tagging Mikumu Horikawa and the Zozo Championship page, PGA captioned the video post as, “Almost 3 hours after his round, @Mikumu.H was still on the range. He’s T2 after 18 holes @ZOZOCHAMP.”

The caption informed that Mikumu Horikawa is tied for second place in the tournament. The Zozo Championship 2023 is being held in Inzai, Japan, in October. After watching his strokes in the practice session, Horikawa has received comments from fans on the post. “What a legend!!” said one fan, while the other noted, “Hard work pays off” with a ‘biceps’ emoji.

“Best 9 to 5 in the world,” observed a fan, calling professional golf the best job in the world. Another admirer liked his playing action, and wrote, “Nice swing.” One fan, however, quipped, “I’m exhausted just watching.”

Moreover, a keen fan already sees a tough finale between Mikumu Horikawa and his rival Collin Morikawa of the USA in the Zozo Championship 2023. The golf enthusiast remarked, “I’m here for a Morikawa/Horikawa final group Sunday”. One more comment on the Japanese player’s post read, “Inspiring”, denoting how fans already think of him as a legend.

Who is leading in the Zozo Championship 2023?

Looking at the comments of fans, it is quite clear that Mikumu Horikawa is a hero at his home ground. His arch rival Collin Morikawa, though, is ahead of him at the Zozo Championship 2023 at 6-under 64.

The final scores on Thursday, October 19 at the 2023 Zozo Championship were: Collin Morikawa at 33-31—64 and Mikumu Horikawa at 31-34—65. There are three other players between the two after Thursday’s play.

It will be a challenge for Horikawa to be the victor in his home country, with such competitors. But he has certainly won over some fans with his focus on prep and practice. It could certainly turn things around. What do you think?
