The Golden Bear of golf, Jack Nicklaus, is not just a legendary golfer but a great family man too. When he was 80, all his family members expressed how important he had been to the Nicklaus family.

In 1966, the greatest golfer of all time, shifted to Palm Beach County with his wife, Barbara. They resided there for more than 50 years. On his 80th birthday in 2020, sports writer, Tom D’Angelo from the Palm Beach Post, contacted Nicklaus’s family, and several of his closest pals expressed their views on Nicklaus. His oldest son shared one of the most treasured memories of his life with his father.

What did Jack Nicklaus II say about his father?

Jack Nicklaus II, the 61-year-old, has always admired his father. Nicklaus, the legendary golfer, has been a role model for his oldest son, and his words will prove that. The story Jr. Nicklaus narrated perfectly portrays Nicklaus’s true fatherhood. The retired golfer was playing at the World Series of Golf in Akron, Ohio. His oldest son had a football match in the Glades, Benjamin versus Glades Day. Instead of entirely focusing on his game, Nicklaus flew to the States to watch his son play football and win the match.

After their victory, Nicklaus ran into the field, hugged his son, and said, “I got to get back to Ohio to finish my golf tournament.” He left the tournament in the middle to attend his son’s football match. However, unfortunately, the former golfer did not win that year. His father’s move touched Jr. Nicklaus. He said, “Not everybody has the success to afford to get on a plane to watch their children play, but even fewer people that have the ability to do that makes the call to go do that.”

Nicklaus was successful enough to take a plane in the middle of his tournament to watch his son win. Nicklaus has always been a dedicated father, and his son is well aware of that. He was thankful for his father’s presence on that Friday night. He was overwhelmed and admitted that those moments would stay with him forever. Nicklaus’s son said, “That’s amazing in my eyes to always be there and be present. And mom and dad have done that throughout their lives.”

The legendary golfer is a role model to his son

In the same interview, Jr. Nicklaus said, “My dad has been the most amazing role model to me.” He admired his father because he had always made the right decisions. He was genuinely proud of his father’s intellect in making the decision that led him to such splendid success. Despite being a busy golfer, he was always there for his kids. Expressing his gratitude towards his parents, Jr. Nicklaus said, “You can be there and not present, but my mom and dad were always there, and they were present at well.”
