PGA Tour Pros and their putter struggles! The putter problems have been rampant on the mean’s circuit this season and they have even gotten under the skin of World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, as it was witnessed at the WM Phoenix Open. This time, it was Jimmy Walker’s turn to let off steam on the greens.

During his second round, the six-time PGA Tour winner had a sudden outburst at the second last hole of the front nine. It looks like his putter had to bear the brunt of it. Adding to the putting chaos, Rory McIlroy was present and he had two cents on the incident, which quickly went viral in the golfing community.

Kyle Porter, a golf writer, recently took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account and shared a snippet from the second round of the championship at TPC San Antonio—a panning shot of Jimmy Walker, attempting to score his second birdie of the round. In the video, Jimmy Walker managed to take the putter back and strike the ball, but it failed to make it into the hole, which left him with a one-shot of a three-foot par putt.

However, what happened next even surprised the golfer himself, as he ended up snapping his putter’s head off the shaft. The incident took place during the ‘Happy Hour’ segment hosted by Smylie Kaufman. It was none other than Rory McIlroy in the chair, with him giving an interview.

Witnessing Walker’s little outburst, the 24-time PGA Tour winner empathized with him as he mentioned how many pros have been in the same position at some point in their career. However, he engaged in fun banter with Kaufman and humorously said, ‘I didn’t think Jimmy was that strong.

The 45-year-old did not get off to a great start. In the first round, he carded a total of four bogeys, making a score of 2-over 74, and well, the second round met with pretty much the same fate and the same score. The round started with back-to-back bogeys until the par-4 fifth hole at the TPC San Francisco. It was there that he managed to secure himself a nice five-foot birdie putt. But well, the fiasco that followed left the golf world in tatters.

The golf community reacts to Jimmy Walker’s mishap on the greens

The golf world left all sorts of hilarious comments on the post. While some of them pointed out how frustrating the moment must have been, others focused on his scorecard ahead. One of the fans, who carefully watched the video, made a rather sheer observation. In the video, it took Jimmy Walker a while to process what happened, and it was after the incident had seeped in that Walker gave out an awkward smile to himself. Taking to this, one of them commented, “There’s a fun moment of realization at the 12-second mark “Ahh, I need a different club now”.

While another follower simply laughed it off, and commented, “Hahaha 😂”, another demanded the most trustworthy news source in the golf world, Matt Ginella, who has been a golf editor for a long time now, to analyze the incident. Well, it was, of course, a comment made only out of a joke, as the fan wrote, “I need @MattGinella to investigate this”.

Jimmy Walker had chosen the Scotty Camera Newport 2, which costs somewhere around $400, which is pretty expensive compared to the other putters. Taking to this, one of the followers wrote, “Of all the putters to break, this one might be the priciest.”

Another, worried about such a heavy loss, also commented on the second and last birdie that he scored on the ninth hole right after the viral moment that took place, commented, “Is the putter fixed? Just made a 15-footer on 9 for Birdie.” A golf fan, completely amused at the same time by what had just happened, simply commented, “This is so sick”.
