Wasn’t it yesterday Phil Mickelson shared with the world he is feeling hyped up for this year’s major appearances? Locking a solid 3rd place finish in Hong Kong, Mickelson couldn’t help but say, “My goal to win another major, um, I can feel is within reach.” And his games did look promising. He may not have followed that strong form in Singapore (T19), but he seemed to have done it pretty well in Miami till now. Well, at least, until an unintended blunder happened. So, what really went on?
Phil Mickelson is currently swinging it strong in Miami. In the first two rounds, he made 69 and 73. And heading into the final round, he seemed to get his game back. Until he didn’t. In the final round at Doral, Mickelson swung his club with confidence, and it looked like his shot would drop right into the cup. Sadly, it didn’t. On the par-4 6th, his short pitch hit the flagstick. But that wasn’t even the worst. After hitting the flagstick, his ball dramatically rolled into the water, resulting in a double bogey. All of us groaned, without a doubt. But it was funny!
However, admittedly, it must have been frustrating for Phil Mickelson. He ended up following that with a bogey on the next hole. And that’s a sentiment that seemed to echo everywhere. Posting a clip of the scene, NUCLR GOLF shared, “Incredibly unlucky break for Phil Mickelson during the final round of LIV Golf Miami 💀💧.” And that’s something we can all relate to. Maybe we will also get to hear Phil Mickelson talking about it.

The golf fans cannot help but call the moment ‘karma’
Golf enthusiasts do not shy away from letting it be bare, and that seems to be the case in this situation as well. One of the fans said one thing we all thought, “F*cking hilarious omg.” This one doesn’t need an explanation. Maybe if we were in Mickelson’s shoes, we would have been just as frustrated. However, it looks funny from the other side! Take a look again at the brutal outcome!

The next two fans were much more brutal, however, and their reaction stems from an accusation Phil Mickelson has often faced: you have divided the men’s professional golf. When LIV Golf appeared in the 2022 season, Mickelson was one of the first to defect. By doing so, he ended his 30-year relationship with the PGA Tour. Brandel Chamblee was one of the first to call him out and say he had done “irreparable harm” to professional golf. However, Mickelson has faced plenty of repercussions, such as losing sponsors and getting banned from the PGA Tour. Additionally, he has not won a single title yet after joining LIV, and that is why this one fan commented, “Karma for ruining professional golf” while the other commented, “F*ck Phil for ruining pro golf.” Another repercussion on the list? According to the fan, yes.

One of the fans commented, “No ones watching this.” Makes sense if you’re looking at LIV Golf’s viewership records this season. According to the reports, LIV Golf ended the event in Riyadh with a mere 85,000 viewers. Following that, the Saudi-backed league seemed to do well in Adelaide with 249,000 viewers; however, the viewership dipped once again in the next two events. In Hong Kong, it was 34,000 viewers and in Singapore, it was 34,000 viewers. But will the numbers get better in Miami? We will hope!
Lastly, a fan seemed to get particularly brutal by finding happiness in it. They said, “So happy to see that.” We can just hope this doesn’t happen to Phil Mickelson during the Masters! It will be much more brutal.
