There is never a lack of twists and turns in the rivalry between the PGA tour and the LIV Golf. And here comes another; however, the LIV defectors are the winning party. After the pro players of the PGA Tour left the legacy behind and joined LIV, the PGA Tour banned them from being part of any tour event. According to the earlier reports, the LIV players also do not get accounted for the OWGR points, nor are they qualified to be part of the Open. However, the R&A has made things clear. They do not want to hurt the history and legacy of the Open championship by not allowing LIV defectors to be part of it. After the news got viral, it divided golf fans over it.
How did the golf world react to the win of LIV Golf players?
After the good news of Greg Norman’s LIV defectors was making rounds on the internet, people reacted unexpectedly. It divided the golf world after the official account of NUCLR GOLF tweeted about the news. It read, “The R&A says they will not prevent LIV golfers from competing at The Open Championship: “We’re not banning anyone. We are not going to betray 150 years of history and have the Open not be open.”

However, there were comments which were completely against the decision of R&A. As the fans were not ready to get accustomed to the LIV players being part of the Open after the news of being banned. There were discussions of how OWGR are also off-the-limits for the LIV defectors and how it has affected them.
Let’s see what the fans think of it. The shreds of evidence of the fans parted in two different directions.
Hey someone is finally making sense on all this!

To be truly open, everyone should have to play a qualifier. Exemptions should end. That evens the playing field.

They do play qualifiers. Those qualifiers are their other eligible tourney results.
— MJ (@MJVanCity) October 29, 2022
Exactly – they can all enter qualifying like the rest of the world

This changes nothing in regards to world ranking points. They will still have to qualify for the Open. Guys who have not previously qualified will have to go through “Open” qualifying of some kind. I’m confused how this is even news?

There was speculation that LIV guys would get banned from majors completely, especially after Mickelson and Norman were disinvited from this year’s champions dinner at St Andrews

You're forgetting the other avenues for exemptions.
Top finishes in majors gets you in the next year. Regardless of your world ranking.— EskimoGolfer (@eskimo4282) October 29, 2022
Well that doesn’t fucking matter lol half of the LiV players shouldn’t have to go through local qualifying. They should either get some points for liv events or be allowed to play on PGAT/DP. Can’t not give points and ban from tours and say just qualify locally. That’s absurd
— Jerry (@JGreenspaNY) October 29, 2022
not absurd…and past winners qualify
— scottcrew (@KruhScott) October 29, 2022
The R&A knows the #LIV guys won’t qualify unless they go through the process everyone else has to go through. They won’t have the OGWR points to qualify that way. How many of them will “lower themselves” to go through the actual work of qualifying?

Liv money doesn't count, he and peereed and louis and charl and 25 others will miss the cut at least. The college kids who took the money are totally screwed. No status anywhere and they can't even get starts on 54

Why was the said decision made?
Martin Slumbers, the CEO of the R&A, made the announcements and explained the reason for the decision. The decision was taken because it built the perseverance of the pathways and meritocracy in the game. It is the backbone of the sport, and it won’t exist without the path and legacy.

He wanted to ensure that all the best players got the opportunity to play, despite the tours they were from. The defending champion, Cameron Smith, will also be the part of qualifiers for the Open.
