After taking the tour of the Asian continent, the LPGA Tour has returned to the American lands. The women’s tour has been playing at the Palos Verdes Golf Club for the last three days and will conclude with the final round being played on March 24th, Sunday. The 144 players’ field for the previously named DIO Implant LA Open has been highlighted by some of the top pros teeing it up in California.

Nelly Korda had her third start after winning the Drive On Championship, Lilia Vu played after missing the last two events due to withdrawal citing injury, and defending champion Ruoning Yin is also in the field among the many prominent golfers. However, only one will be fortunate enough to take home the second-biggest prize purse of the LPGA Tour so far in the season.

As the event reaches its final hours, there are a few storylines that are running simultaneously at the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship. Two players are aiming to reach a new career high as the leaderboard after round three suggests.

Jiyai Shin makes an unexpected run for the lead

On day three of the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, the veteran golfer from South Korea, Jiyai Shin shot a bogey-free round of 9 under 63 to take the lead on Palos Verdes GC. Shin has won 11 LPGA Tours but the last full season she played on the Tour was in 2013. The 35-year-old pro was playing in California on a sponsor exemption. If she does go on to win the event, it will be Shin’s first victory since 2013 on the LPGA Tour.

Another story in the making is of Alison Lee, who is starting her season late after recovering from a dog bite. Playing at her home ground, Lee is also tied for the lead with a score of  20 under 204 after three rounds. If the 29-year-old does win the championship, it will be a big deal for her. Because, although Lee has won two times on the Ladies European Tour, this victory will be her maiden victory on the LPGA Tour since making her debut in 2015.
