There were online discussions of launching a PGA Tour vs LIV Golf event last month. Fans expressed their excitement, but the topic lost its fire, and people forgot it. There may be plenty of time for that to happen. However, an Instagram post is creating a buzz online, and Rickie Fowler is part of it. The PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour are coming up with something truly extraordinary. Now the question is will it carry more importance than “The Match”?

Is Rickie Fowler the part of something big?

This year is bringing another great surprise for golf fans. The mixed golf team from the PGA Tour and the LPGA Tour players are coming together to compete. On Wednesday, the authorities of both Tours announced they would collaborate for the Grant Thornton Invitational on December 8-10 at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida. The event will have 32 golfers, with 16 men and 16 women. The teams will play for the prize money of $4 million across three days.

Following the announcement, the official Instagram handle of the event posted a video featuring LPGA Tour pro Jessica Korda and the PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler. A few days back, he was bar tendering with TaylorMade. Now, thankfully, he is back to his profession. In the video, both the pros can be seen discussing the team names for the upcoming event in December. However, one thing was clear, Korda and Fowler would pair together to win the event. Their conversation about team names was the highlight. Fowler discussed options, but Korda declined, saying, “I know where you’re going with this, Rickie. Our team color is not gonna be orange.” The pro golfers’ reply was even more funny when he said, “but you look amazing in orange.”

PGA Tour’s commissioner, Jay Monahan, also commented about it and said, “As we look to capitalize on the growing interest in the game of golf, the addition of a mixed event to the calendar has been a priority.” He thanked the title sponsor Grant Thornton for supporting the idea. This event will make “our sport more appealing and welcoming to all.

The format of the event is yet to be finalized but the fans are hoping it to be a spectacular experience. However, CBS Golf has given some updates. Apart from Jessica pairing up with fowler, LPGA stalwart, Nelly Korda, will pair up with the PGA Tour pro, Tony Finau. These four golfers are the brand ambassador of Grant Thornton. We expect them to bring a spark to the event.

And it isn’t just fans who are excited. Even the PGA Tour commissioner, Monahan, is excited to collaborate with the LPGA Tour. He wants to promote the game of golf and provide fans with the entertainment they deserve. Now we will have to wait until the next update. Are you excited about a great combined event featuring outstanding male and female golfers?
